Volumetric concrete is mixed as it is poured; therefore, the concrete is always fresh from the start to the finish of the pour. The end result is that the concrete poured at the end of the pour is just as strong as the concrete at the beginning of the pour. Another big advantage is that there is minimal waste and you only pay for what you use. For example, if you calculate that you need 7 yards, but only end up using 6.5 yards, you will only be charged for the 6.5 yards. There is no need to order 7.5 yards to ensure you do not run short. Our truck holds up to 10 yards so any job that is half a yard less than our truck max load, can comfortably be accommodated. If you order 7 yards and end up needing 7.5 yards, we will normally have extra on the truck, thus allowing you to complete your pour and not run short on concrete.
Volumetric concrete is a more diverse option than traditional concrete batched at a batch plant due to the ability to change mix designs at the jobsite. For example, you can pour a 4 yard 3000 psi mix for a footing, then change the mix design to a 6 bag driveway mix and pour 6 yards for a driveway, all from the same truck load.
Colored concrete and stamped concrete contractors will love volumetric concrete where perhaps the most valuable component of a successful pour is the amount of time you get to finish the job from the time of placement to the stamping process.
As soon as water is added to cement, it begins to hydrate (set up). According to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) C 94 Specification for ready-mixed concrete, the concrete shall be discharged from the truck within 90 minutes after water is added to the cement and before 300 revolutions of the barrel. Does that mean that concrete poured out of a traditional barrel truck after 90 minutes is junk? No, probably not, but it does mean that its strength and quality can be considerably compromised depending on the temperature and the conditions of the jobsite. A concrete mix design will always be at its greatest strength and possess its highest quality when it is placed and poured immediately after it is mixed. Consider an average trip from a batch plant of a half hour and a half hour to unload the truck, the last of the concrete to be placed is placed one hour after it is mixed.
If you want a stronger, better quality, with more time to finish concrete, try volumetric concrete.
